Tax Credits for Small Businesses

A health insurance Tax Credit is available to eligible small businesses that provide health insurance coverage to their employees. IRS Code Section 45R (a) outlines the tax credit and defines an eligible employer as:

•   An employer with a maximum of 25 full-time employees for the taxable year;

•   Whose employees have average annual wages of less than $50,000 per full-time employee;

•   And who have a qualifying arrangement in effect that requires them to pay a uniform percentage (not less than 50%) of
     the premium cost of a qualified health plan offered through a Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) exchange.
